Strong 2nd half performance sees 13s come through at the Wasps Development Ground

Keyworth 13s travelled to Broadstreet RFC, home of the Wasps Development Academy for a first fixture with Broadstreet RFC.
The facilities were first class and with both sides having players missing through half term absentees it made for a very competitive game. We were determined to give as much game time as possible to everyone.
The match started and Keyworth looked a bit rusty making a few basic errors and with Broadstreet settling very well it wasn't long before they eased the ball down the line and scored the first try. Handling errors continued and we seemed to lack any period of possession which played perfectly into Broadstreet's hands as their strong rucking allowed them turn possession into more points and halfway through the first half we found ourselves 3 tries down. Zac played scrum half for the first time and did well getting the ball to Archie's hands at every opportunity.
Time for the first subs and a quick reorganisation. Suddenly we seemed to spring into more life. Faster ball from George to Archie allowed Josh to create space for Theo to punch through, dodging a few defenders and getting our first score. Half time was called and we regrouped.
The second half began in more determined fashion with Keyworth having more of the ball. Dundee was showing good ground on one wing and with some great team work allowed him to wriggle his way through for our second try. Our defensive line was looking much better and Danny was looking more assured marshalling things from the back. Ethan and James P were starting to come to life supported admirably by both Os, Dillon, Toby and Archer. Pharrell was getting his hands on the ball more and it was starting to be passed around more and it wasn't long before Ethan powered through to level the scores. At last we had started to play some rugby and a typical team try resulted in Alec doing what he seems to do best and swallow over for what turned out to be the winning try. This was a good even encounter - Harry and James W were excellent doing all that was asked of them in the Broadstreet Team and we look forward to another competitive encounter a some point in the future. We thank Broadstreet for their hospitality.
