Old Newtonians were brought crashing to ground by a rampant Keyworth seconds who racked up 55 points without reply.

It was route one rugby from first to last whistle from a strong Keyworth squad, as they quickly realised that Old Newts had no answer to the pick and go driving of all 15 players. The first try came just 5 minutes into the game when prop forward Adam Sheen was driven over following a front lineout catch from veteran John Scott.

The second try also came from a lineout 5m from the home line when a wayward throw gave Luke Benson the easiest of scores as he caught the ball and fell over the line. Simples!

Three more tries followed in the first half as the visitors turned round 31 points to the good. Two of these fell to Mark King, the second coming from an arrow straight run from the 22 which sliced through the defence, off first phase possession. The other score came from Tom Muncey on the wing who is starting to really develop as a key member of this Keyworth side.

At half-time, Keyworth rang the changes and brought on Tom Martin on the wing and Jack Pitchfork and Ashley Waldron created a new second row partnership taking over from the brothers Scott. Pitchfork was exceptional from the word go, making tackles and securing loose ball.

It took the team a while to adjust to the positional changes and the first try of the second half took more than 10 minutes to arrive. The evergreen Simon Starr, this week filling in at scrum half, threw an outrageous dummy on the opposition 22 and could hardly believe his luck when the entire defence bought it and he was able to cross close to the posts. 5 minutes later he crossed again after a quick tap penalty from about 7m out, after great approach work from Ben Lewis and centre Tom Cooper.

Muncey grabbed another from long range and the last knockings went to Tom Bradshaw, who crossed for what is believed to be his first try for the club and he was justifiably named Man of the Match by his teammates for an outstanding performance in the tight and for some great bullocking runs in the loose.

Phil Dennett was also very strong in the loose taking the ball at first receiver close to the breakdown on numerous occasions. Another player who showed up well was Zander Wiles with good pace and elusive running skills. Great to see him back in harness after a year out with a hand injury.

Three of the try scorers added five conversions between them, Mark King, Adam Sheen and Tom Muncey.

This week sees Tom Holmes, Jack Pitchfork, Tom Bradshaw and Jack Starr starting University and the club wishes them well and will welcome them back during the holidays and any weekend that they are back in Keyworth.
