A big thanks must go to Jack Pitchfork and Matt Savage, as the cousins turned out in opposition colours to ensure that a competitive game was able to be played. Similar thanks to the apprentice reporter who covered for his absent pater.
Uncontested scrums, in part due to the absence of two front-row forwards from Keyworth, poor handling, indecision in the Keyworth ranks and poor tackling by both sides. Excess greed by players in possession leading to the multiple squandering of chances and overlaps as Keyworth players suffered from white line fever.
The half time score was 15 – 5 to Keyworth after first tries for the club from both Felix Ng and Matthew Ellis, which were the cause for much celebration from those players and their teammates. Jack Starr added the third to continue his impressive run of scores.
After the break, Jason Holland scored for Keyworth and then gifted one to Hamians, dropping the ball over his own line. Consecutive ‘Dick of the Day’ awards for this veteran player will not go unpunished at the next available opportunity! Final Keyworth try went to Zander Wiles, who was also named Man of the Match for his strong running throughout the game.
Next week sees the 2s at home against local rivals East Leake, so a full turnout is required for this important league match.
