Fun in the mud at Nottingham Casuals

With no Rugby for over a month the boys were desperate for an outing of any kind.
We turned up to Nottingham Casuals and were hoping to assemble 2 teams but unfortunately numbers meant that we would have only one team and utilise a full rotation system. West Bridgford, the last NLD Champions in our age group had 4 teams and Notts Casuals had one rotated team similar to ourselves.
With boys from both West Bridgford and Keyworth familiar with each other, there was an intense rivalry in the air. The big question was ' Could Keyworth give West Bridgford a game when other teams had crumbled?'

In the first match the boys were up for it although that was only after their Tualagi lookalike had waltzed through to score 2 quick tries. The boys grouped and George Stephen was on every ball to get our players playing. I think Alec and Josh went through and we were level. Then we went ahead and the see saw match continued with us coming out on top by the odd try. An excellent performance.
Unfortunately as we hit the 2nd and 3rd games we started to forget about our basics and started to bunch, not pass and make silly mistakes. Bridgford reaped their revenge and we fell short twice.
Time was running short and we were unable to play the 4th Bridgford side and finished with a flurry against Notts Casuals in a game that seemed to wake us up a bit.
2 wins and 2 loses but important game time and learning for everyone.
We are not going face sides of this quality every week but at times we matched and bettered our opponents so we have plenty to work on and look forward to.

I'm sure there were a few tired boys come sunday afternoon. Well done Alec on your MOM performance, it shows what you are capable of when you concentrate and listen and also well done to Donovan for the nearly try! After taking the ball at pace and running through the line he reached the try line and passed to a team mate to touch down! What a great sport!

Finally a massive thank you to the wonderful support from all the Parents who braved the elements to watch, thank you!
